The Hurt It Guards

Some anger carries more than the moment in front of it. It may carry a history of being dismissed, spoken over, misunderstood, blamed, expected to cope, or left alone with too much.

This episode begins with the hurt anger may have been guarding.

The Hurt It Guards is a Sourel for the woman whose fire may have been protecting a wound that did not feel safe enough to be seen. It does not ask the hurt to step into the light too quickly. It does not ask anger to move aside before it trusts what is coming. It offers a slower, more sacred way of listening.

This reflection recognises that hurt can become defended when it has not been met with care. What was once soft may become sharp. What once reached for connection may protect itself through distance, suspicion, control, irritation or silence. What once needed comfort may now stand behind a wall of fire.

The Hurt It Guards invites one gentle question: what hurt are you guarding. Not as a demand. Not as a command to remember. But as a quiet invitation to let the protected place know it has not been forgotten.

The answer may come as a sensation, a word, a memory, a heaviness, or nothing clear at all. There is no need to force it. Sacred return happens at the pace of safety.

The Hurt It Guards is part of The Fire Within, a September Sourel series for women ready to meet the fire within them as protection, truth and sacred signal. It is a return to the tenderness beneath the armour.

Perhaps, little by little, the guard can learn that protection does not always have to mean armour. Sometimes protection can also mean being held with tenderness, clarity and respect.

If you find yourself wanting something to return to between these reflections, in the actual moment a pattern like this one takes hold, I also built an app called Settle and Source. It offers a ninety second guided practice for exactly the kind of moment this reflection has been describing, the gap between noticing an urge and knowing what to do with it. It is not a replacement for anything here, simply another door, in case it is the right one for you. https://settleandsource.com
