Taking Charge

Taking charge can look capable from the outside. Organised. Responsible. Clear. Strong. But inside, the part that manages everything may feel tired, watchful, tight and unable to rest.

This episode begins with the part that tries to stay ahead of hurt.

Taking Charge is a Sourel for the woman who learned to scan the room, manage the mood, hold the details, prepare for what might happen, and keep everything from falling apart. It honours the protector within her that may have mistaken constant control for safety because, at some point, no one else carried enough.

This reflection listens beneath control for the fear it may be holding. Fear of chaos. Fear of being powerless. Fear of being blamed. Fear of being trapped inside someone else’s choices. Fear that if she lets go, even slightly, something painful might happen.

Taking Charge does not ask this part to relax on command. It does not shame the need for control. It offers a sacred approach: I see how much you are holding. I am not here to take your protection away. I am here to help you carry it differently.

This Sourel invites the listener to notice where control lives in the body, and to ask what it is afraid would happen if it did not hold everything so tightly. Then, gently, it asks whether one small thing might be held with a little less grip today.

Taking Charge is part of The Fire Within, a September Sourel series for women returning to the sacred wisdom beneath anger, fear, protection and the longing to feel safe.

Protection that includes you does not have to feel like constant control. It can begin to feel like support.

If you find yourself wanting something to return to between these reflections, in the actual moment a pattern like this one takes hold, I also built an app called Settle and Source. It offers a ninety second guided practice for exactly the kind of moment this reflection has been describing, the gap between noticing an urge and knowing what to do with it. It is not a replacement for anything here, simply another door, in case it is the right one for you. https://settleandsource.com
