Going Away Inside

Going away inside can look quiet from the outside. The body may still be in the room, but something within has stepped back, gone blank, become distant, or moved far away from contact.

This episode begins with the part that leaves without leaving.

Going Away Inside is a Sourel for the woman who withdraws when staying present feels too exposed, too risky, too painful or too much. It does not shame the part that shuts down. It honours the wisdom of distance when distance once felt like the only protection available.

This reflection recognises that withdrawal may have been misunderstood as coldness, stubbornness or punishment, when something within was simply trying to survive overwhelm. A part of her may have learned that speaking made things worse, that explaining led to being misunderstood, that showing hurt invited more hurt, or that staying open had no safe ending.

Going Away Inside opens a softer doorway back. Not forcing return. Not demanding words before the system has them. Not asking the woman to become available before she feels safe. Simply asking, what felt too much to stay with.

This Sourel closes with one small signal of return. Feel the feet. Name the room. Place a hand on the chest. Say, I am here, even if only a little.

Going Away Inside is part of The Fire Within, a September Sourel series for women returning to the sacred wisdom beneath anger, protection, distance and the longing to feel safe in their own bodies.

There is a way back that can be slow. There is a way back that honours protection. There is a way back that does not demand too much too soon.

If you find yourself wanting something to return to between these reflections, in the actual moment a pattern like this one takes hold, I also built an app called Settle and Source. It offers a ninety second guided practice for exactly the kind of moment this reflection has been describing, the gap between noticing an urge and knowing what to do with it. It is not a replacement for anything here, simply another door, in case it is the right one for you. https://settleandsource.com
